Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA) is in nearby Greenbelt, attracting aerospace, defense systems, and advanced manufacturing contractors building AI-critical systems for space, satellite, and defense applications. The workforce skews heavily toward STEM-credentialed professionals: aerospace engineers, software architects, systems integrators, and technical program managers. The challenge is not convincing people that AI is useful (they see that clearly), but enabling organizations to integrate AI into systems-engineering practices and regulatory compliance processes designed before AI was a factor.

Aerospace contractors build systems where AI failure can have catastrophic consequences. Training programs span ten to sixteen weeks, cost sixty thousand to one hundred twenty thousand dollars, and address: engineering leadership on integrating AI into systems-engineering processes; test and verification teams on AI-specific testing methodologies; program managers on mission assurance and stakeholder communication; and governance training on meeting aerospace standards (AS9100, DO-178C, mission-assurance frameworks). Trainers must be engineers who have shipped AI in mission-critical systems.
