Tech and Industry in Gilbert
Gilbert's economy is residential-heavy with a working employer base in healthcare, aerospace manufacturing, and an expanding mid-market tech sector. Northrop Grumman's Gilbert satellite manufacturing facility, located in the city's industrial east-side area, builds satellites and space systems and runs significant engineering and software work, including increasingly AI-driven design and operations tools. Banner Health's Banner Gateway and MD Anderson Cancer Center clinical operations form one of the largest healthcare employer concentrations in the East Valley. The Gilbert Heritage District, the SanTan Village area, and Cooley Station have developed into mixed-use environments that attract younger tech workers and a growing remote-employee base. Several mid-market SaaS firms and digital agencies operate from office parks along the SanTan Loop 202 corridor. Smaller advanced manufacturing operations, including aerospace component shops feeding Northrop Grumman and Honeywell, add an industrial AI demand layer. Arizona State University and Chandler-Gilbert Community College feed talent into the local pipeline. ASU's main Tempe campus is a 20-minute drive; the Polytechnic campus in Mesa is even closer. Chandler-Gilbert's applied-tech programs produce strong technician and analyst talent. The labor pool is regional rather than strictly local, with East Valley commuting patterns that overlap heavily with Chandler, Mesa, and Tempe.
